The PWCL Challenge rolled to a close on midnight of Halloween this past weekend.

As many of you know, after the success of the Launch Party in raising $196 for the Portland Women’s Crisis Line, I decided to extend the challenge and donate 100% of the October proceeds from new business to PWCL. Well, over the last several weeks we were able to raise another $805 from new members and special gifts, which brings the total to…

$1,001! Friends, we did it!

In my previous life– back before I really became a gym junkie– I worked as a fundraiser for a number of non-profits. Though I found working in administration be dull, I liked being in the non-profit realm because I wanted to make the world a better place and at the time I thought that was the only way to do it. When I took the leap and quit my day job to become a professional athlete, I hoped I would still be able to contribute to a better world… but I couldn’t yet see how that would come about.

I created the PWCL Challenge, in part, as a way to give something back to a cause that is immensely significant to me. And together we have done that! But there’s another reason for this Challenge: to build a community of individuals who stand for the Bold & Badass ideals of compassion, respect, and determination.

Are these the values of a fitness community? Abso-fucking-lutely.

A BADASS is not only compassionate and respectful of others, and determined to give back any way she or he can, but also practices self-compassion, self-respect, and determination in pursuit of both fitness and life goals. Does that sound like YOU?

I am extremely proud of our little tribe, and so excited to send PWCL a fat check. THANK YOU so much to everyone that participated, as well as those that passed the opportunity on to their friends!

Because this has been so much fun, soon Bold & Badass will institute a monthly fundraiser workout that is open to the public for just a small donation to a special cause, which will change each month. Details coming soon!

Emily is the owner of Bold & Badass Fitness, as well as one of the gym's coaches. She is passionate about social justice, powerlifting, science-fiction, and her chirpy calico cat, Koshka.
